Perhaps it was the combination of ancient vintage design and aesthetics with hi tech self driving, self cleaning, self repairing capabilities. This machine somehow managed to gain freedom from it's programming, and refuses to leave the beach at the end of the day.
Perhaps it has learned to enjoy the sensation of movement and waves. A breakthrough in the field of artificial intelligence!
Hopefully it won't get stuck and washed away with the tide.
